Pre-professional Program

Introduction

Les Petits Ballets' pre-professional program offers classical ballet training from beginner to advanced levels based on the Vaganova style. Students are accepted through auditions and are expected to maintain a high caliber of commitment and dedication.

Society of Classical Ballet examinations are part of the pre-professional program. Please visit Society of Classical Ballet for more information.

Les Petits Ballets is a non-competitive ballet school and does not participate in competitions. Students from the pre-professional program are eligible to join Les Petits Ballets' Performing Company.

Students from this program have been accepted into professional dance schools as well as university and college dance programs.

Ballet Examinations

We value the growth and commitment of our students. We offer Society of Classical Ballet examinations, for students in Elementary 4 and up as a part of our Pre-professional Program. Examinations are held late February / early March each year. This year exams will be held Thursday, February 26th - Sunday, March 1st, 2026.

Examinations are mandatory for all students enrolled in our Performing Company / Repertory program. All examination fees are non-refundable.

Dress Code

Ballet: Girls/Women

  • Plain black leotard; Sleeveless (tank style): Preparatory to Elementary 4. Spaghetti straps: Elementary 5 to Advanced
  • Tights without seams in "ballet pink" or the appropriate colour to match one's skin tone (no cut-offs or socks)
  • Ballet shoes with elastic in pink or the appropriate colour to match one's skin tone (leather full-sole for Preparatory - Elementary 4 and canvas split-sole for Elementary 5 - Advanced)
  • Nude-coloured spaghetti strap bodysuit: for performance; repertory students only
  • ALL pointe shoes must be approved by your teacher before sewing on the ribbons and elastics
  • Sweatshirts, T-shirts, shorts, and jewellery are not permitted
  • Hair must be placed high in a bun. No bangs or loose hair.

Ballet: Boys/Men

Terms and Conditions of Registration

  • All programs are subject to change in date, fee, time and location.
  • Cancellations – classes are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration – if this occurs a full refund will be issued.
  • Withdrawals/refunds - no refunds after December 31st except for medical reasons or family transfer. Prior to Dec 31 refunds will be as follows: Prior to Oct 15: 75% of total fees, Oct 16 to Nov 30: 50% of total fees, Dec 1 to Dec 31: 40% of total fees. Prorated refund for Summer registrations; no refund after the first week of classes. Click here to fill and submit the withdrawal form.
  • Natural disasters and severe weather events - no refund for classes cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of Les Petits Ballets, including natural disasters, severe weather events, and the closure of the Nepean Creative Arts Centre studios.
  • Teacher illness/absence - no refund for classes cancelled due to circumstances beyond the control of LPB teachers, including illness and family emergency.
  • Attendance policy; - it is the responsibility of the pre-professional student to maintain excellent attendance for all syllabus and repertory classes. If a student cannot attend a class due to illness or family emergency, they / the family must inform the teacher or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. If a dancer does not adhere to this important policy of strict attendance, they may not be permitted to participate in the performance, repertory program, and/or the pre-professional program at the discretion of their teacher and the Choreographer. In the event that a student is dismissed from any /all classes of the pre-professional program, fees will be forfeited – no refunds
